Amsterdam

Just come back from a great couple of days in Amsterdam. I've been a couple of times before to the city and seen previously how quirky and often crazy this place is! The city is best seen from its extensive canal network from which you can see all of its many attractions and sights of historical importance. You may one minute be cruising through the unique and outlandish heart of the Red Light District, by the towering Heineken brewery or by the poignant location of Anne Frank's famous residence, one thing that can be guaranteed is that you'll certainly be cruising by something interesting! I only spent a short time here but being just a forty-five minute flight away from home meant it was enough to be immersed very quickly in the many sights and sounds of the city.

Is only right to start with some pictures of Amsterdam's many canals!

A boat shaped as a clog, well it is Amsterdam...

Photographer's dream - seven perfectly aligned bridges

Afternoon at the Heineken brewery - what a great beer they produce

Sights of one of many million flower stalls in Amsterdam.

You will find plenty of tulips but of course, being Amsterdam, you will find a little Cannabis as well..

Pictures from an expectedly poignant visit to Anne Frank's house. There was an incredible one and a half hour queue (in very cold wind!) to get in but if anyone is worth queueing for it's her, such a talented young girl whose experience and views of the war have been shared in all corners of the world.

Amsterdam and Holland in general is a city of cycling and it's always very evident wherever  you go. In both pictures below you can see the amusing multi-storey cycle park and in the bottom a glimpse of a cycle road with its own pedestrian crossing, quite impressive!

The weather finally turned warm on the final day and there was just enough time for one enjoyable morning in the city centre.
